Yellow Deli - Packaging Design
Yellow Deli is the most unique restaurant in all of North San Diego county. Known by locals as the “Hidden Gem of Vista,” the Yellow Deli’s interior is made of polished reclaimed barn wood and soft leather hides. A plainly dressed religious co-op runs the restaurant using ingredients grown on their farm to create life altering hot soups and sandwiches. Yellow adobe on the outside and treehouse on the inside, going to the Yellow Deli is like stepping through a portal into a different world. With my packaging I took inspiration from the overall ambiance of the restaurant and the fact that Yellow Deli makes homemade food based on the ingredients they grow. The soup that is served changes daily so the jars need to be made at the same time as the soup. Flavor stickers are perfect for the flexibility needed in the jar labels and create a uniform look for every soup that is made. The flavor sticker also acts as a reminder that each jar is individually hand poured and labeled at the moment the soup is made. The transparent wrap around the jar lets the ingredients be the star, showing off the fresh vegetables each soup is made with. The beautiful hand drawn sunflower on top of each jar makes the packaging feel homemade and personal. When people buy a Yellow Deli soup it will feel as if they are receiving a homemade gift from a close friend. The use of handwritten fonts also reflects the personal attention put into the creation of each meal. Each jar includes a recipe for homemade bread. The recipe tag will be kept and looked back at, reminding people of the Yellow Deli. The gift box has a wonderful sunflower reveal after it is opened, making receiving the gift of soup even more fantastic.
